Goldwatch

Curated by Velasco Vitali

‘It is the diary of my ‘reclusion’ narrated through images painted live on Instagram for 24 days within the walls of a garden. The entire work then developed into three successive cycles for a total of 72 works. The gold background is the code that unites the paintings in this series. It is a metaphor for this time. An unnatural and unmeasurable space. While time and space had stopped, the only reality that continued to grow was nature. So it was nature that I portrayed. I was inspired by the Middle Ages, imagining that the men of that time were wondering, as we do today, about their future, about the unknown. The title is suggested by an episode of Quentin Tarantino’s film Pulp Fiction, when Bruce Willis’s child character receives the gold watch that had belonged to his father. A metaphor for an inheritance that we receive and have to give back to our children’. Goldwatch was also exhibited in Milan in Assab One’s new studio. The new installation offers an immersion in a painting tunnel composed of the 24 large canvases while the small paintings painted ‘live’ en plein air and the 24 drawings hang on the walls.
