Museum of Milk and History of Muggiasca (MUU)

Ethnographic Museum, Vendrogno

Two thousand years of manual tradition, passed on from father to son: a way of working that is also a way of living, based on a few specific rules: patient and active waiting, and techniques translating in apparently simple actions carried out with manual mastery reflecting great expertise and love.

Since 2008 MUU – The Ethnographic Museum of Milk and of the History of Muggiasca of Vendrogno has been recounting this world inside an old latteria turnaria, a type of cooperative dairy, that was easily converted into a museum space, with four rooms on the ground floor displaying dairy equipment and illustrating the various phases for cheese production, and two rooms on the upper floor with tools, vintage photos, and archive material: a wealth of documentation describing and celebrating old traditions, the work carried out up in the mountain pastures, and the culture that has defined the human identity of communities that have been thriving in the beautiful landscapes of Val Muggiasca.
