Roberto Gianola boasts a brilliant international career that has led him to conduct orchestras in Europe, the United States, Central and South America, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, China, South Korea, Japan and the United Arab Emirates.
Since May 2023, he has been the Permanent Conductor of the Izmir Opera and Ballet Theatre, after also serving for nine years as Music Director of the Istanbul Opera Theatre, where he tackled a wide repertoire of opera, symphonic and ballet works.
His career has taken him to some of the most prestigious international stages, including the Musikverein in Vienna, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Centre in New York, the Seoul Arts Centre, Smetana Hall in Prague, Sala Verdi in Milan and theatres in Hong Kong, Beijing and Macao.
He collaborated with Plácido Domingo on a production of Nabucco in Beijing. He assisted Maestro Myung-Whun Chung in the preparation of Verdi’s Requiem, a co-production between the Arena di Verona and the Teatro La Fenice, as part of the celebrations for the centenary of the Arena di Verona Festival. He also received widespread acclaim for his conducting of La Traviata with the famous soprano Mariella Devia in Seoul.
Among his future engagements are his debut at the Bellini Theatre in Catania with La Vedova Allegra, his return to the Hong Kong Opera with Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci, and Tosca at the Izmir Theatre and for the Ephesus Mediterranean Festival.
Alongside his conducting activities, Roberto Gianola is the founder and artistic director of the Lake Como Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lake Como Music Academy, two cultural institutions established on the shores of Lake Como that have been promoting music for over twenty years through opera and symphonic productions, masterclasses and international competitions. Among the most significant projects organised by the Lake Como Music Academy is the 2024 tour of China, consisting of 27 concerts in numerous cities.
His discography includes a CD for Stradivarius with the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano and a CD dedicated to Ottorino Respighi, recorded with the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra and published by Amadeus magazine.
